Tips for Playing Foosball

Foosball table seems to be everywhere these days from pubs, bars, and even apartment complexes. But just because it appears that all you have to do is pull some bars and kick balls, it takes strategies and skills to play Foosball like a champ. That’s why if you’re new to playing Foosball, we at game room mania will give you some tips and tricks that will help you have a successful game.

Don’t Spin

The first thing you need to know is the most fundamental rule in Foosball. This is a rule that all players should follow. Spinning the rods is not only prohibited move, but it also can damage the foosball table and warp the rods. Plus, it doesn’t give you any powerful and accurate shots.

Relax your grip

Several new foosball players tend to grip the handle way too tightly when they play. Especially when the competition starts heating up. However, you should resist the temptation of gripping the handles to tightly and focus on maintaining a relaxed grip. All you have to do is hold the handle with your knuckles on top and wrap your thumb loosely around the bottom. Try to keep the handle firm but loose enough to have a little space between your palm, fingers, and the handle. This way, you can quickly adjust your grip while you’re playing, and it makes it easier for you to adapt to different shots and blocking moves.

Use an open stance

New foosball players tent to stand stiff and straight while playing. But believe us, you have a better chance at making a successful move if you open your stance a little bit. Just try to stand at a 45-degree angle away from the foosball table. This way, you will be able to free your right arm, and it will allow you to move quickly and create more power.

Serve yourself

Always remember that the first serve in a foosball game should be good. Which means that the ball will be served down the middle of the field. However, after a goal is scored, the serving team can try to serve the ball to themselves. The serving of the ball is a whole lot easier if your foosball table has a serving cup. This way, the ball will be released slowly down the cup.

Pin the ball

This move is a great wat to gain ball control while you’re planning your next step. As the ball approaches, remember to angle him back slightly, then catch the ball and trap it beneath your player. This move can be made as a back pin or front pin, it just depends on which direction the ball is coming from.

Watch your opponent’s men

Yes, it’s natural to focus on your players when you’re trying to move the ball. But here’s a vital foosball tip: pay attention to your opponent’s men. This move will allow you to see brief gaps in their formation, and once you have a gap, it creates a path that can advance the ball forward. And if you see a clear way to the goal, take a shot.

Always keep your forward players angled and ready

Remember that your three-man rod is your right offense. That’s why you should try to advance the ball towards them and have as much control as possible. If your three-man rod is positioned too straight, a pass will bounce off them, and your opponent will have the chance to take possession. Your three-man rod is in a much better position to receive and hold the ball if they are angled forward. That’s why you should always keep them in an angled place as much as possible.

Consider trying a wall pass

When it comes to Foosball, passing is the answer to a perfectly executed offense. This move keeps your opponent guessing, and it allows you to move the ball forward to achieve better scoring positions methodically. One of the most effective techniques to pass the ball forward is the wall pass. All you have to do is control the ball on the inside edge of your number two five-man. After that, you will position a three-man forward against the wall and slide the ball to the wall using your five-man.

Redirect your passes

with this move, you can try to throw your opponent off by quickly changing direction. You pretend to begin a wall pass by sliding the ball into the wall and quickly shift to your outside edge and pass the ball to your middle five-man.

Master one-shot

If you’re a foosball enthusiast, then you might have noticed that experienced foosball players use a lot of different shooting techniques to be able to score. We understand it’s quite tempting to try some of their routines during your game. However, one of the most effective approaches when it comes to playing Foosball is that you need to find a single shot technique that you’re comfortable with and stick with it.
